Laura Thomas Laws was born July 22, 1959 in Alexander County & grew up in Hiddenite with her parents, Raeford and Katherine Thomas. She had three siblings; Cindy T. Sellers, Cathy T. Potts & Stan Thomas. On July 17, 2003 Laura died suddenly & unexpectedly at home from a dissection of the coronary artery. Edwin and two children, Lindsay & Andy, survive. Edwin is a Charter member of the Fourth Creek Rotary Club. Fourth Creek Rotary honors Laura’s passion for children & education and dedicates the proceeds of this event to improving the quality of life for Iredell County residents. |

Using the proceeds from the first LLMGT and the generous matching gift challenge established by the Costi and Theresa Kutteh family, an endowed golf scholarship at Wake Forrest University was established. The Laura Laws Memorial and Rotary Club of Statesville—Fourth Creek Golf Scholarship at Wake Forrest University is the first Women’s golf scholarship at Wake Forrest. The Rotary Club of Statesville—Fourth Creek formed a Donor Advised Fund in 2003. The DAF is a 501(c)3 organization that allows for tax-deductible contributions to be made to the DAF for the benefit of area out reach programs and the Community Fund of the Rotary Club of Statesville- Fourth Creek. Some of the donations from the LLMGT are put into the DAF for Fourth Creek Rotary’s community outreach programs and have benefited: annual scholarships at Mitchell Community College, North Iredell High School, South Iredell High School, Statesville Christian School, Statesville Senior High School and Alexander Central High School. Other recipients of the fund: Teen Health Scholarship, Iredell County Elementary Schools Libraries, Iredell Christian Ministries, Girl Scouts, Iredell County Schools Certification for Elementary Teacher Assistants, and RYLA Scholarships. |
